The candidate we can't have

Sam Smith

I keep dreaming that we have a presidential candidate who supports:

Leaving Afghanistan
Ending corporate personhood
Legalizing marijuana
Legalizing gay marriage
Increasing taxes on the wealthy
Opposing cuts in Social Security
Increasing the powers of the EPA
Lifting the Cuban embargo
Ending the death penalty

No, I’m not dreaming about Dennis Kucinich, Ralph Nader or the nominee of the Green Party. I’m dreaming about your normal Democratic candidate with lots of money who appears on Meet the Press and gets three favorable mentions in one day on the op ed page of the Washington Post.

That’s crazy, I hear some readers mumbling. . .

And I would agree with you except for one small thing:

All the policies above, according to surveys, are supported by a majority of the American people.

Is it really crazy to have a candidate who takes the same position on such key issues as a majority of the American people?

Or is something else crazy?

Like the fact that you can only dream about it?
