Sam Smith - As noted here before, Donald Trump could murder
one or more people and, according to the Department of Justice and much
of the media, nothing could be done about it except to have him impeached
for which even conviction would only amount to loss of office.
But
it becomes even more absurd when you realize that the judgement - as
opposed to merely impeachment - would be carried out by a majority
clearly in the pocket of the accused. Any sane judge would not allow,
say, Mitch McConnell on the jury in a case where he was as deeply
involved with the accused. In other words, as long as the president has a
majority in the Senate he can get away with all sorts of stuff. The
Justice Department has implicitly argued that Trump is actually a
dictator about whom we can do little.
